Aldactone 50mg Tablet contains Spironolactone, which is a diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting too low. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), and also to treat fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or a kidney disorder called nephrotic syndrome. This medication is also used to treat or prevent hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood). It works by making the kidneys eliminate sodium and water from the body, while retaining potassium. This tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor and should not be taken in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
